Lit-Net

TLP commissioned Orangeleaf Systems to develop an almost totally text based site which could manage events listings. We supplied a SQL database application which allows both distributed management of the events and content on the site by a number of editors and administrators.
The site offers preview of supplied content and events, with an approval / unapproval system integrated with standard email as a workflow application. The site significantly reduces the overhead of managing and updating events for the site's administrators, who previously had to organise information from emails into web pages, then upload them to the server.
Now they just click 'Approve' (or not!) after logging into the site. The site is being initially released with just the events listing system, but will soon feature the complete searchable West Midlands readers and writers groups directory.
Content, such as publicly supplied stories and links are also managed within the preview / approval system. It was important that the site met W3C HTML 4.01 transitional specification, to maximise accessibility.
Although very much an example of 'Content is King' (there is NO slow loading Flash Intro page on this site!) comments such as 'I've seen the beta Lit Net AND ITS BEAUTIFUL!!!! The design is so elegant' have still been received.

Special thanks must be given to David Fine, current Lit-Net editor, for the work he has put in to developing this site.

Autumn 2002: Many, many more positive comments have been received about the 'very impressive' web site that we created, one that is now receiving thousands of hits a week: read them all on Lit-Net.
